If you are in pain and discomfort in any area of your body, which is not resolving on its own over time, it may be beneficial to seek out an evaluation with a physiotherapist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Physiotherapists are proudly first-line healthcare practitioners, and therefore a doctor’s referral is NOT REQUIRED.
Yes! While the most commonly known fields of physiotherapy include post-injury, post-surgery or sports physiotherapy, there are a number of other conditions and fields of interest that physiotherapists can be involved in. We receive training in lung physiotherapy for adults and children, acute and chronic pain management, treatment and rehabilitation in neurological conditions, women’s health physiotherapy, paediatric physiotherapy, general rehabilitation and return to function and in-hospital post-operative treatment following a wide array of surgeries (i.e. cardiac, vascular, orthopaedic, abdominal), as well as the treatment of clients in the intensive care unit.
Through our training we are taught the value of working in a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic treatment and client-centred management, with the main goal of minimising/eliminating dysfunction and restoring function and mobility.
Land-based physio:
Comfortable clothes that you can move in easily are ideal for a physiotherapy session. Please remember that we may need to assess and look at several different areas and movements of your body during the assessment, so that we can identify and treat the source of your complaint. You will therefore be asked to expose certain areas of your body, but we do have gowns, cover-ups and shorts available, and your comfort and modesty is a priority at all times.
Aquatherapy:
Bring a towelling robe to wear between the change area and the pool. This is helpful in maintaining body temperature when you exit the pool.
To allow you to move freely and without restriction it is best to wear tight-fitting swimwear. For gents and boys we recommend a Speedo; ladies, you are welcome to choose either your normal bathing suit or if you prefer something more modest we suggest you consider sun-suit which covers both upper arms and thighs.
Bring along two towels; one for drying yourself off at the poolside and one for showering. Some clients like to bring their own towelling bathmat/hand towel to stand on whilst changing.
All clients using the pool are required to wear dedicated, non-slip footwear. This helps us to maintain our high standard of infection control in the area.
It is advisable to layer up your clothing, especially in winter. Our pool area is kept at a comfortably warm ambient air temperature. Upon exiting the pool area you will need to acclimatize to the outside ambient air temperature and this is best done gradually so layering helps in this regard.
Please bring all relevant medical history related documents and any doctor’s reports, referrals, X-rays and a list of current medication you are taking.
We take the cleanliness and hygiene of our practice very seriously and have put in strict procedures and methods of cleaning all surfaces, equipment and devices regularly. The linen on our beds is changed every day and/or between client appointments, and disposable sheets and pillow covers are used when necessary. Our pool water is monitored very closely and water chemistry testing is done daily on site. We also send our water for microbiological testing to an accredited laboratory every fortnight or more frequently should it be required.
As per our practice Terms and Conditions (available on our website), all minors (under 12 years old) entering into the Practice must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or a nominated responsible adult. Please note that as a parent or legal guardian, you are legally liable to cover the cost of your child’s healthcare, even where the Children’s Act allows the child to provide consent to treatment without parental consent (12 to 18-year old’s).
We have all the necessary legal documents and consent forms available in this situation. You are allowed to give consent to physiotherapy treatment on behalf of the client (your family member) if you are:
- The spouse / life partner / parent / adult son / adult daughter / adult brother / adult sister / grandparent / other family member of the client,
OR - If you are the person mandated in writing by the client to consent on his/her behalf when s/he cannot consent to treatment
OR - If you are mandated by a Court of law or other legal process to consent to treatment on behalf of the client
Payment is due at the end of the appointment. We accept cards, cash and Snapscan payments. Classes are booked and paid for monthly in advance. Should you join us during the month, you will be charged pro-rata for that month.
As registered health practitioners, we charge according to specific billing treatment codes and tariffs, which can be claimed back from the medical aid, depending on the extent of your cover. While we do align our fees with medical aid tariffs, we are not contracted into any medical aid, and therefore we require you to settle your account upfront and submit the claim to your medical aid yourself.
There are two disabled parking bays in the underground parking and there is paid parking in the building next door (Library Square).
Yes, our practice is fully accessible. There are disabled parking bays, a lift from the parking lot and a wheelchair ramp from the road to the entrance of the practice, there is a fully accessible bathroom and change room, and we have a hoist at the pool, allowing this facility to be fully accessible for all clients.
If you do not keep your appointment (for any reason whatsoever, apart from emergencies) and you have not let us know at least 24 hours before the appointment, and we are unable to fill that appointment slot, we reserve the right to charge you an average consultation fee amount as a cancellation fee.
This amount cannot be charged to your medical aid.
If you are unable to attend a class, we are happy for you to join another similar class within the same month. However, monthly class fees will not be carried over to the following month.
Aquatherapy is very different from regular swimming. Clients are not required to be able to swim in order to have Aquatherapy. For those who are apprehensive, it will be comforting to know that your therapist will be right there in the water to support and guide you.
